Market Shares of the Vendors

Looking at the distribution of the different manufacturers in Fig. 4, we see a decreasing share of Cray Research and of the Japanese vendors, while the market share of IBM and even more of SGI rose quite significantly during the last year. The traditional MPP manufacturers TMC and Intel seem to have reached a stagnation point. In the case of TMC, this certainly is true as they had to stop the hardware production. Looking at the changes in the accumulated performances of the different vendors in Fig. 5, we see that the installed performance of the Japanese vendors is increasing strongly. This is another indication that during the last two years larger systems were installed in Japan than anywhere else.
