After the distribution of the different families, we would now like to brief you on their main features. For a more detailed description of supercomputer architectures we refer, for instance, to the excellent book of Kai Hwang, Advanced Computer Architecture (McGraw-Hill, New York, 1993).
For the presentation on the following pages we have ordered the families first by vendors according to their numbers of entries in the TOP500. For each vendor we order the families by their number of entries for the system in question in the TOP500 (Table 4.3).
