This is the first in a series of slides showing how clients retrieve files from the system.

This slide shows a client asking a catalog server for information about a resource, and in response, receiving a description of that resource.

One of the fields in the resource description is a Location-Independent File Name (LIFN), an unambiguous resource name for the particular version of the file that the client is attempting to retrieve.
