Harold's Deli

kosher style

The best restuarant in Knoxville is Harold's deli on the north end of Gay street towards Jackson. Kosher style food. breakfast and lunch. Harold's brother (Max) married Jan and I. This is the only place in Knoxville I would call better than the food I cook at home. Go there spontaneously for lunch (after 12:30 to miss lunch rush), the soup will cheer you up. Inexpensive.

Bel-Aire Grill

nouveau diner

(there are 2, one on Alcoa out towards the airport, the other is in Halls) has good milkshakes to go with the meat burgers. Fresh cut fries. Only been to the Halls one. Busy atmosphere, used to be a steak house.

has good milkshakes to go with the meat burgers. Fresh cut fries. There are 3, the one on Alcoa out towards the airport, has the most funky 60's ambiance. The one in Halls has a busy atmosphere, used to be a steak house. One at the Cedar Bluff exit on I-40 has a out-of-the-box West Knoxville rec-room feel.

pizza

Has the best pizza but can be inconsistent. I had a fierce argument with the manager so I don't go there anymore. Some eat-in space. Take out and delivery.

Falafel Hut

Falafel Hut

middle eastern

has good middle eastern food (like falafels). Run by delightful Palestinian woman (Rene Jubran). The table service is consistently, horrendously slow--order take out and call 10 minutes ahead. Soup never good here. I like the spinach pies. Clinch & 15th.

West off the Merchant Dr. exit of I-75, has probably the best Chinese food in town, notably the black bean sauce and, I've been told, the potstickers.

For an Indian food experience, try Neelam's on Sutherland for take-out (weekends only). You can browse the freaky pickled mystery vegetables packaged in England while waiting or eat at the table in back with the kids.
