The general problem of providing high-level semantic-based support
for query and visualization of parallel distributed data structures is
quite hard, if the data structures are allowed to be arbitrary. However,
in HPF the only distributed data objects are arrays. Although the
types of parallel array structures and their decompositions are
potentially numerous and complex, a tool that leverages the HPF
compiler and runtime system can provide the capabilities described
above in a component form that can be applied in parallel debuggers,
performance evaluation tools, and computational steering
environments.
The Distributed Array Query and Visualization (DAQV) project was
started to address these needs [1]. Currently under active
development as a project sponsored by the Parallel Tools Consortium,
the project will ultimately provide a library supporting data, program
query, and program control protocols to be used by external control
and visualization clients.
