PEREGRINE - Medical Applications of Monte Carlo Methods <author> <version>
The Physics and Space Technology Directorate of LLNL is developing a Monte Carlo all-particle transport code, PEREGRINE, for calculating the dose deposition in patients receiving radiation therapy. PEREGRINE simulates the transport of neutrons, photons, electrons, and protons through a patient using a geometry derived from a computed tomography (CT) scan that is made prior to treatment. PEREGRINE will help oncologists choose a treatment that maximizes the radiation dose to the tumor and minimizes the dose to normal tissues. <description><url>http://www.llnl.gov/liv_comp/meiko/apps/rathkopf/rathkopf.html</url> <reference><url></url> <contact>Jim Rathkopf / rathkopf@llnl.gov <keywords>simulation; radiation transfer; application program <category>application <publication-date>04 October 1994 <environment> <method>Monte Carlo analysis <application>radiation therapy, radiation transport <comments> </urc>
