Course Description

The course outline is given below. Essentially we will examine scientific computations within the context of a reasonable set of scientific applications. With the exception of the steady-state heat equation, they are all non-trivial applications. Throughout the course we will be considering the solution of these problems on parallel architectures.

We will be constantly working on small matlab-type homeworks within the context of the applications that we are studying. Near the end of the course, if time permits, you will undertake the implementation of a more complex version of one of the applications on a parallel computer. The final project is meant to be fun/interesting/illustrative, not as a large burden at the end of the semester.
