This is essentially a learn by doing course; hence, there will be a fairly significant amount of written homework and some laboratory work. This homework will normally be assigned on Wednesdays and collected the following Wednesday. There may be suggested problems which are not required. These problems may be useful for preparing for exams - they will neither be collected nor graded.
You may use any reference material from any library to help solve homework problems, but please indicate the use of such material in your work. Also, all assumptions and derivations must be stated. An answer without a derivation will receive no credit. Solutions to the homework problems will be provided when graded homework is returned.
There will be 2 laboratory exercises using the Caltech electronic CAD system, diglog, for Unix/X-Windows systems. Live demonstrations of this system (in studio classroom) are planned and SUN Sparcstations in the CS Department Hydra Lab will be available for evening/weekend use by all local and remote students. Times for Hydra Lab use by CS 530 students will be posted. TA's will be available during these times for assistance. Students will be required to provide both hardcopy and electronic designs of assigned circuits.
