Visualizing the Contents of a Mathematical Software Collection
Interfaces to software collections typically provide a limited view
and few options for controlling that view. This prototype interface
overcomes these limitations by providing control and display that are
visually rather than textually based. Users can control the 2-D
graphical display with the buttons and pull-down menus. Pointing and
clicking in the display area reveals more detailed information,
including links for immediate downloading of selected software. The
collection used for this demonstration is from Netlib's collection of
linear algebra software. The interface, however, can easily extend to
collections of broader scope or adapt to other applications.
