Hough Date: Mon, 20 Dec 93 21:19:21 PST Subject: Freely Distributable LIBM Dr. K-C Ng has developed a new version of libm that is the basis for the bundled /usr/lib/libm.so in Solaris 2.3 for SPARC and for future Solaris 2 releases for x86 and PowerPC. It provides the standard functions necessary to pass the usual test suites. This new libm can be configured to handle exceptions in accordance with various language standards or in the spirit of IEEE 754. The C source code should be portable to any IEEE 754 system with minimal difficulty. fdlibm contains no additional functions beyond those required by various standards; the additional functions that used to be part of Sun libm will be distributed in a new library libsunmath.a that will be shipped with the unbundled SunPro compilers. In the interest of elevating the minimum acceptable level of quality in math libraries, SunPro has decided to make K-C's work freely distributable subject only to the restriction that its origin be acknowledged: /* @(#)fdlibm.h 5.1 93/09/24 */ /* * ==================================================== * Copyright (C) 1993 by Sun Microsystems, Inc. SANZ-SERNA Date: Tue, 21 Dec 1993 08:48:34 +0000 (UTC +0100)+0100 Subject: New book, Numerical Hamiltonian Problems The book NUMERICAL HAMILTONIAN PROBLEMS by J.M. Sanz-Serna and M.P. Calvo is now available. It is published by Chapman and Hall, London and has xii+207 pages. The purpose of the book is to present a unified introduction to the interdisciplinary and growing field of symplectic integration of Hamiltonian problems.. It includes five preliminary chapters on Hamiltonian problems and numerical methods, so that little background knowledge should be required. Numerical examples are provided throughout. ------------------------------ From: Karen Morgan <70530.1227@CompuServe.COM> Date: 20 Dec 93 12:12:07 EST Subject: Medicine Meets Virtual Reality Medicine Meets Virtual Reality II: INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY AND HEALTHCARE: VISIONARY APPLICATIONS FOR SIMULATION, VISUALIZATION, ROBOTICS January 27-30, 1994, San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina Sponsored by UCSD, 23 hours Category 1 CME credit, $390 until December 31, $450 after, call 619/751-8841, fax 751-8842, or E-mail 70530,1227@compuserve.com for information THURSDAY, January 27, three workshops offered simultaneously: I.
