This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the first
mathematical and statistical organizations within the National
Institute of Standards and Technology. To commemorate this, NIST has
organized a three-day online symposium featuring historical
reflections, assessments of the impact of NIST work, presentations of
current work, and examples of areas of future growth. The event
should be of interest to NIST alumni and stakeholders, those
interested in the history of science, and colleagues at other
institutions engaged in research in applied mathematics and
statistics.

In a tradition since 1961, the CEA-EDF-Inria summer school on
numerical analysis will be held June 27 - July 1, 2022, in
Paris-Saclay, France. This year, the subject is "Certification of
errors in numerical simulations". The summer school is intended for
researchers, engineers, and Ph.D. students. It will review the
state-of-the-art in a posteriori error estimation in lectures
complemented by computer tutorials under supervision of
assistants. Evening scientific seminars will introduce some recent
developments, and the last day will be devoted to industrial
employment.

We are pleased to announce the 2022 summer school organized by the
Collaborative Research Center CRC 154 on "Modelling, Simulation and
Optimization using the Example of Gas Networks". The school takes
place as an online event on June 8th, 2022 and June 9th, 2022.

It is intended to introduce master students and young researchers to
this interesting research topic. Introductory talks for newcomers in
the field will be given, together with discussions on potential
research topics in modelling, simulation and optimization within the
CRC 154. A focus will be on energy networks. The school also aims to
offer a platform for discussions between the participants and the
speakers.

The school features - among other topics - introductory lectures to
optimal control, optimization under uncertainty, Nash equilibria, and
an industrial talk on current challenges in energy management.

In this three-day event, Michael Feischl (TU Vienna), Elisabeth
Ullmann (TU Munich), and Robert Scheichl (U Heidelberg) will present
numerical methods for solving PDEs with a focus on optimal adaptive
discretization using machine learning, numerical methods for PDEs with
random inputs, and solving large-scale Bayesian inverse problems.

In addition to the thematic lectures, participants will have the

The Department of Computer Science at Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin
is seeking an outstanding researcher to be appointed as a full-time,
tenured Full-Professor (W3) on "High Performance Computing". It is
planned that the appointed professor also serves as vice-president at
Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB), heading the research unit "Parallel and
Distributed Computing" and the National High Performance Computing
Center at ZIB.

We are looking for a researcher with an excellent track record in
modern high performance computing (HPC). We are particularly
interested in applicants with demonstrated experience and expertise in
the development of innovative methods and algorithms on the software-
and hardware-level, especially at the intersection of simulation,
optimization, and machine learning. Preference will further be given
to applicants with comprehensive contributions to support HPC
applications, experience in the operation and evolution of an HPC
center and large-scale research projects, as well as strong leadership
skills.

At the ZIB, the incumbent is expected to serve as vice-president. This
includes the responsibility for the research unit on parallel and
distributed computing and for the National High Performance Computing
Center, comprising more than 50 staff members.

anisotropic components, like the generation of anisotropic grids,
discretizations on anisotropic grids or solvers for the systems of

funding from the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security
