Subject: Finite Element Software deal.II Version 9.3.0 released


Version 9.3.0 of deal.II, the object-oriented finite element library
awarded the J. H. Wilkinson Prize for Numerical Software, has been
released. It is available for free under an Open Source license from
the deal.II homepage at https://www.dealii.org/

The major changes of this release are:
- Ten new tutorial programs covering: particle methods, tracking
locations in a flow field, a matrix-free geometric multigrid solver
for a nonlinear problem, automatic and symbolic differentiation,
SUNDIALS interfaces for nonlinear problems, SIPG approach to
discontinuous Galerkin methods, an explicit integrator for the Euler
equations, a solver for the Black-Scholes equations, and topology
optimization problems.
- Experimental support for simplex and mixed meshes.
- Improved flexibility of the particle infrastructure.
- Support for global-coarsening multigrid algorithms.
- Advances in the matrix-free infrastructure.
- Usage of MPI-3.0 shared-memory features to reduce memory footprint

Subject: Software Release: morgen 1.1


We are happy to announce version 1.1 of "morgen" (Model Order
Reduction for Gas and Energy Networks), a software package for
transient gas network simulation and related network systems, such as
district heating and water networks. The underlying models are
typically parametric, nonlinear, hyperbolic partial differential
equation systems, and hence, challenging for modelling, solving, and
particularly model reduction. "morgen" is a modular, configurable,
extensible, and open-source software platform, compatible with MATLAB
and OCTAVE, designed for prototyping, testing, comparing,
benchmarking, and uncertainty quantification of gas network models
(discretizations), solvers (time steppers), and reductors (model
reduction algorithms).

The purpose of this conference is to highlight recent developments in
the analysis of time-dependent equations, and more generally of
evolution problems. The aim is to bring together leading experts
working in different fields, whose research interests intersect the
scientific topics of the workshop, and to stimulate new interactions
and collaborations. If the situation with COVID will allow it, the
conference will take place in presence in the beautiful renaissance
town of Urbino (Italy) from September 8th to September 10th at
University of Urbino Carlo Bo. It will consist in 2 mini-courses and

topics concerning partial differential equations, semigroup theory,
geometric analysis and control theory.

The Weierstrass Institute (WIAS) in Berlin seeks applications for a
Doctoral Scientist / PhD student (75% of full-time salary group E13
TV-L) starting October 1, 2021, for a fixed-term of 3 years.

The position is part of the project "Adaptive Neural Tensor Networks
for parametric PDEs" within the DFG Priority Programme SPP 2298
"Theoretical Foundations of Deep Learning". The project will be
concerned with the development of adaptive methods for neural networks
and hybrid tensor neural networks for the solution of parametric
PDEs. It will be carried out in collaboration with the group of Lars
Grasedyck at the RWTH Aachen.

The applicants are expected to have a strong mathematical background
and to be familiar with some of the topics numerical analysis (for
PDEs), uncertainty quantification, statistical learning theory,
high-dimensional approximations (in particular with neural and tensor
