Subject: Nonuniform FFT library new releases for CPU and GPU
We are pleased to announce two library releases for efficient
nonuniform fast Fourier transforms (NUFFTs), written largely at the
Flatiron Institute, NYC. Such transforms evaluate off-grid
exponential sums, to a user- chosen tolerance, at close-to-FFT
speeds. There are many applications to imaging, signal processing, and
scientific computing. Typically the CPU code achieves 1M to 100M
target points/sec, while the GPU code can exceed 1G points/sec; both
test competitively against other codes. Interfaces are simple yet
flexible. Both have PyPI packages:
- FINUFFT v.2: CPU code for type 1,2,3 transforms in dimensions 1,2,3.
C++/OpenMP; wrappers also to C, Fortran, MATLAB/Octave, Python, and
Julia; tests on Linux, MacOSX and Windows.

to model systems and scenarios. These models are then used to estimate
system performance, find weaknesses in real systems, and suggest
improvements. This conference brings together a wide variety of
mathematical methods with defence and security applications. The
programme will include keynote speakers, presentations and poster
sessions, as well as refreshment breaks for informal discussions. It
is aimed towards mathematicians, scientists and engineers from both
industry and academia, in addition to government and military
personnel who have an interest in how mathematics can be applied to
defence and security problems.

We are very pleased to announce The 2nd Workshop on Numerical Algebra,
Algorithms and Analysis March 16-17, 2021 in honor of Professor Ken
Hayami on the occasion of his retirement from the National Institute
of Informatics and The Graduate University for Advanced Studies
(SOKENDAI), Japan. This two-day online workshop aims at bringing
together experts in the fields of numerical linear algebra,
large-scale matrix and tensor computations, iterative methods and
preconditioning, eigenvalue problems, least squares problems, etc.
Professor Hayami obtained the Doctor of Philosophy Degrees from the
Wessex Institute of Technology, UK (1991) and the University of Tokyo
(1993). He has worked on preconditioned conjugate gradient methods for
vector processors, quadrature for nearly singular integrals in the
boundary element method, Krylov subspace methods for singular systems
and least squares problems.

One fully-funded PhD position is available in the Innovative
Algorithms for Fast Accurate Computing group

Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) in Barcelona.
The PhD project belongs to the line of investigation on Scientific
Machine Learning for Computational Engineering, with special emphasis
towards flow and wave propagation problems. This emerging field
revolves around the groundbreaking interaction of numerical methods
for engineering, reduced order models and machine learning techniques
from computer science, for the solution of complex problems in
physical sciences and engineering.
The successful candidate will join CIMNE to work under the supervision
of Prof. Antonio Huerta and Dr. Matteo Giacomini and she/he will enrol
on a PhD programme at Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC). The
duration of the fellowship is three years and the successful candidate
will have access to state-of-the-art research and computing facilities
at both UPC and CIMNE. CIMNE currently holds the Severo Ochoa
Excellence Award which identifies and promotes public research centres
in Spain that stand out as international references in their
specialised fields. The prospective PhD student is expected to start
as soon as possible and not later than September 2021.

Prerequisites:
- Strong undergraduate and MS degree (or equivalent) record in applied
mathematics, computational science and engineering or related
discipline.
- Knowledge of numerical methods for the approximation of partial
differential equations, with special emphasis on the finite element
method. Knowledge of reduced order models and machine learning is
not compulsory but will be considered an advantage.
- Good programming skills (Matlab and/or Fortran).
- Hard-working and enthusiastic attitude.
- Curiosity and commitment to develop high-quality research.
- Good written and oral communication skills in English.

We are currently accepting submissions for our upcoming special issue
entitled "Drug Design and Discovery for COVID-19", which will be

Computational and Mathematical Methods is an interdisciplinary journal
dedicated to publishing the world's top research in the expanding area
of computational mathematics, science and engineering

connects methods in business, economics, engineering, mathematics and
computer science in both academia and industry.
This is a reminder of the call for papers for the special issue on
"Linear Algebra, Matrix Analysis and Applications".
Mathematical modeling of problems arising in engineering, physics,
mechanics, etc. leads in many cases, directly or after a
discretization process, to solving systems of linear equations of
finite dimension. Besides, other problems of Numerical Analysis, such
as approximation, interpolation, nonlinear systems, computation of
eigenvalues, etc., lead to the resolution of large systems. Thus, it
is essential to develop efficient numerical Linear Algebra methods, in
both sequential and parallel environments, to solve them. The main
purpose of this Special Issue is to collect recent methods for solving
such problems and applications from a multidisciplinary approach.
