Compressed sensing is a relatively recent area of research that has
applications to signal/image processing and computer algorithms, and
it draws from a variety of mathematical techniques such as graph
theory, probability theory, linear algebra, and optimization. The
author presents significant concepts never before discussed as well as
new advances in the theory, providing an in-depth initiation to the
field of compressed sensing. The text contains substantial material on
graph theory and the design of binary measurement matrices, is the
only book to thoroughly study the problem of matrix recovery, and
supplies relevant results alongside their proofs in a compact and
streamlined presentation that is easy to navigate.

solution of partial differential equations. The authors introduce,
illustrate with examples, and analyze 'spectral methods' that are
based on multivariate polynomial approximations. The method presented

that are diffeomorphic to the unit disk, in two dimensions, and the
unit ball, in three dimensions.

The Center for Computational Mathematics in the Department of
Mathematics at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), La
Jolla, California will host a two-day Winter Workshop on Topics in
Optimization, Differential Equations, and Data Analysis, Saturday
January 18-Sunday January 19, 2020.

The workshop will feature a series of expository talks by UCSD faculty
and postdocs on topics that will include optimization methods,
numerical methods for solving differential equations, computational
mechanics and data analysis.

The workshop is intended for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Grant funding is available for travel and lodging for US citizens,
permanent residents, and nationals. Underrepresented minorities and
women are particularly encouraged to register for the workshop. There

The Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences at UT
Austin and Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) are partnering together
to host Rising Stars in Computational and Data Sciences, an intensive
workshop for women graduate students and postdocs who are interested
in pursuing academic and research careers. The workshop will be held
April 7-8, 2020 at the Oden Institute in Austin, TX.

We are seeking nominations for outstanding candidates in their final
year of PhD or within three years of having graduated. We will select
approximately 30 women to come to Austin for two days of research
presentations, poster sessions, and interactive discussions about
academic and research careers, with travel expenses fully covered.

The Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1173 "Wave phenomena -
analysis and numerics" at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
announces two positions of a Junior Research Group Leader in
Mathematics in one of the research fields Analysis and/or Numerical
Analysis of Partial Differential Equations related to wave phenomena
starting February 1st, 2020 or later.

Since July 1st, 2015 the CRC is funded by the German Research
Foundation (DFG) and it has just started into its second funding
period. The host university is KIT and in addition researchers from
the University of Stuttgart, the University of Tubingen, and TU Vienna
contribute. We have collaboration with KIT research groups in optics
and photonics, biomedical engineering, and applied geophysics.

Research topics: The goal of this CRC is to analytically understand,
numerically simulate, and eventually manipulate wave propagation under
realistic scenarios by intertwining analysis and numerics.

With these positions the CRC promotes outstanding young scientists on
their path towards a scientific career. The Junior Research Group
Leaders will independently develop their own research projects. The
successful candidates can apply to become KIT Associate Fellows
allowing them to supervise doctoral researchers. Each of the positions
is endowed with a PhD position and includes a budget for travel and
guests. It is temporary and guaranteed for four years.

This position is focused on the study of complex structures in large
data sets, for instance, industrial problems, crime analysis and urban
environments. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow!
Curiosity, open- mind, creativity, persistence, and collaborative-work
capability are the key personal skills we target. A Ph.D. in
statistics, computer science, applied mathematics or related fields is
required, with demonstrated experience and high-quality publications
(minimum 3 published articles in high-impact journals, in the last 3
years). Candidates should present previous expertise in
high-dimensional spatio-temporal Bayesian models for graph/networks,
and background in data science/statistics. Candidates must have
obtained a doctorate degree within the last 3 years. Portuguese

Sao Paulo Research Foundation provides the financial support with a
monthly salary of R$ 7.373,10 (about US$ 1,700.00). An extra grant is
