Methods for Obtaining HeNCE Software

There are three different ways of obtaining the necessary packages from our electronic distribution machines. We recommend against obtaining HeNCE and PVM (especially in binary form) from any sites other than ours.

  1. Xnetlib. If you have xnetlib [3] installed, you can obtain the HeNCE packages using it. Xnetlib is a graphical interface to a large library of software and documents that are of interest to computational scientists. Xnetlib itself can be obtained by means of netlib or by anonymous ftp to ftp.netlib.org. PVM is in the pvm3 directory, and hence files are in the hence directory.

  2. Netlib. Netlib is an email server to the same repository used by xnetlib. Using it, you can obtain all HeNCE packages via email. Requests for the HeNCE software from netlib are made by sending an email message to netlib@ornl.gov containing the message ``send index from hence''. An index of the available HeNCE software, User's Guide, and how to obtain them will be sent back via return mail. Since the files you will get are large, email is an inconvenient way to receive them.

  3. Anonymous ftp. All HeNCE packages are available by anonymous ftp to ftp.netlib.org [128.169.92.17]. PVM is in the pvm3 directory, and hence files are in the hence directory.
