Resource Cataloging and Distribution Service (RCDS) Testbed
RCDS is a system we have developed as a part of the next logical
advance in URL technology--URNs. RCDS allows
existing URLs to be used as URNs so that resource authors
can can immediately begin using URNs without greatly
disturbing the resource consumer base.
RCDS has 3 essential components:
- a resolution scheme used by resource consumers
- a replication system to allow for high resource availability
- a resource catalog which keeps track of where a resource
has been replicated as well as any other information about a resource

What we have in place today:
- a "personal proxy" tool which RCDS-enables Netscape and other browsers
(get the code)
- XXmeg, 15,000 URL collection which has been RCDS registered and replicated
across the U.S. Our current collection was gathered from the
following popular sites.
- a client C library which allows you to build RCDS aware tools
