Subject: PLTMG 12

PLTMG 12.0 is a package for solving elliptic partial differential
equations in general regions of the plane. It is based on a family of
continuous Lagrange triangular finite elements. PLTMG features
options for adaptive h, p, and hp refinement, coarsening, and mesh
moving. PLTMG employs several algebraic multilevel solvers for the
resulting systems of linear equations. PLTMG provides a suite of
continuation options to handle PDEs with parameter dependencies. It
also provides options for solving several classes of optimal control
and obstacle problems. The package includes an initial mesh generator
and several graphics packages. Support for the Bank-Holst parallel
adaptive meshing paradigm and corresponding domain decomposition
solver are also provided.

PLTMG is provided as Fortran (and a little C) source code. The code
has interfaces to X-Windows, MPI, and Michael Holst's OpenGL display
tool SG. The X-Windows, MPI, and SG interfaces require libraries that
are NOT provided as part of the PLTMG package. PLTMG is available

Flight route planning nowadays is faced with growing challenges due to
continuous increase of air traffic and mounting strict requirements on
safety, efficiency, capacities and environment. To successfully
accomplish these challenges, joint efforts of all ATM stakeholders,
air traffic control, network managers, airports, airlines and academia
are necessary. This workshop will discuss a variety of mathematical
aspects in air traffic management, including pre-flight route
optimization as well as in-flight conflict resolutions. Day 1 offers
insight into the flight operation at Lufthansa and is enhanced by a
practical experience report by an ATC controller from DFS Deutsche
Flugsicherung. The MSO-related presentations on day 2 carve out the
mathematical approaches for the stakeholder-specific challenges, where
the main aim of the workshop is to foster synergies and
collaborations. Confirmed speakers include representatives of
Lufthansa Systems, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung, Eurocontrol, Bundeswehr
University Munich, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Technical
University of Munich, DLR & Lufthansa.

The Radon Institute of Computational and Applied Mathematics in Linz,
Austria, is organizing a conference on the 100th anniversary of the
publication of the famous paper "Über die Bestimmung von Funktionen
durch ihre Integralwerte längs gewisser Mannigfaltigkeiten" in
Berichte über die Verhandlungen der Königlich-Sächsischen Gesellschaft
der Wissenschaften zu Leipzig. Mathematisch-Physische Klasse, Band 69,
1917, Seiten 262-277, of the name giver of the institute, Johann
Radon.

The conference provides an historical exposition of the field of Radon
transforms as well as highlighting recent trends.

The application for contributed minisymposia at 100 Years of the Radon
Transform, Linz, March 27-31, 2017 is open.

We invite organizers to submit proposals for minisymposia related to
the Radon transform. Each minisymposium consists of 6 speakers (30
minutes including discussions).

Subject: Research Chair Position, Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Cameroon

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is calling for applications for
a German Research Chair for "Mathematics and its Applications" at the
African Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cameroon
(AIMS-Cameroon). In the coming years, this research chair will promote
higher education and research in mathematics in Africa. The call is
aimed at postdoctoral academics from any country who demonstrably
conduct application-related research in the field of mathematics, have
several years' experience in training students and, ideally, doctoral
candidates. Experience in working in and cooperating with Africa and a
willingness to collaborate with other academic disciplines are also
desired. The closing date for applications is 1 August
2016. Cooperation with a collaborative partner in Germany is a
requirement of the programme. However, an application can be submitted
even if contact with a partner at a German university/research
institution has not yet been established by the application deadline.
This research chair is funded with a total of €560,000 for a four-year
period. A concurrent appointment at a collaborating university in
Cameroon is planned. Following three years of funding, AIMS-Cameroon
plans to conduct an evaluation of the chair. A long-term
establishment of the research chair at AIMS-Cameroon is intended.

AIMS-Cameroon is part of the AIMS Next Einstein Initiative which seeks
to establish a coordinated network of 15 supra-regional centres of

centres in Africa. The Humboldt Foundation will fill four research
chairs at AIMS centres in, Ghana, South Africa, Cameroon and Tanzania.

A postdoctoral position (two years) in process modeling of composite
materials is available at CeMEAI (Center for Mathematical Sciences
Applied to Industry) - University of São Paulo at São Carlos -
Brazil. This Fapesp-funded, collaborative project with the division
for material and computational mechanics of Chalmers University Sweden
and Polytechnic School of University of São Paulo will focus on
lightweight composite material crucial for structural applications in
a wide range areas, e.g. windmill, automotive and aeronautic
industries related to reduced CO2 emissions. Problems of material
variation and big scatter of material properties are needed to be
modeled. In this particular project we are interested in thermal
stresses induced by the cure leading to e.g. warping, spring-back,
spring-in phenomena and the simulation of wet-out process for
unidirectional layers. All these aspects are related to geometry
assurance, and they have to be properly accounted for.

We are seeking an individual with a PhD in Applied Mathematics,
numerical methods and related areas and skills in a programming
language, continuum mechanics of solids and fluids and with interest
in interacting with other partners in material science and
experimental techniques of composite materials. It is also possible
that part of the work will be done in Sweden. The successful candidate
will be expected to work collaboratively with teams at both Poli-USP
and Chalmers but will be employed at CeMEAI-ICMC-USP at São Carlos.
Review of applications will begin 1 July 2016 and continue until the
position is filled. Funding support is available for two years, but

will focus on the development of theoretical models of laser direct
metal deposition processes. The know-how developed in the project is a
key step towards optimization and control of blown powder processes,

manufacturing (3d- printing).
