Communication protocols and algorithms are needed to communicate
network devices and exchange data between them. The appearance of new
technologies usually comes with a protocol procedure and communication
rules that allows data communication while taking profit of this new
technology. Recent advances in hardware and communication mediums
allow proposing new rules, conventions and data structures which could
be used by network devices to communicate across the network.
Moreover, devices with higher processing capacity let us include more
complex algorithms that can be used by the network device to enhance
the communication procedure.

In this workshop, researchers are encouraged to submit papers focused
on the design, development, analysis or optimization of smart
communication protocols or algorithms at any communication
layer. Algorithms and protocols based on artificial intelligence
techniques for network management, network monitoring, quality of
service enhancement, performance optimization and network secure are
included in the workshop.

II) Postdoc Fellowships

Since the support of younger researchers is one of the vital functions
of a research centre, in this direction the CIRM opens the application
for two Postdoc Positions, an annual one and a triennial one, for
researches in the field of Mathematics. Each fellowship amounts to
Euro 23500 gross per year (taxes should be deducted), which will be
pro-rated in 12 monthly installments, and requires the presence at the
CIRM Institute (address Via Sommarive 14, Povo, Trento).

The applications must arrive not later than September 20, 2011 at the
address Fondazione Bruno Kessler, Centro Internazionale per la Ricerca

The Advisory Board of CIRM will make, for each of the Fellowships, a
selection of winner applicants, ranking them in consecutive order. On
the basis of this list of selected candidates, the CIRM will make
offers to award the fellowship (as Co.Co.Pro. "contratto di
collaborazione coordinata e continuativa a progetto") for a period of
12 months.This requires, for non EEC citizens, a working permit which
takes several weeks to be obtained.

In the case of the triennial Fellowship, renewal of the contract will
be subject to a positive evaluation by the Advisory board, on the
basis of a detailed research report submitted by the Fellow towards
the end of each period of 12 months (precisely, 4 weeks prior to
expiration of the 12 months term).

These fellowships are incompatible with other full-time employment or
with similar fellowships.

Winners must communicate their acceptance of the fellowship within 15
days from the time of receipt of the communication of CIRM. If one of
the chosen candidates turns down the offer, the CIRM will proceed to
make an offer to the next candidate on the list.

The activities connected with the new enrollment, except for
particular requirements to be agreed upon with the winners, will start
within the month of October 2011; they should start in any case within
December 1, 2011.

Applications for the annual Postdoctoral Fellowship may also be
submitted before the official awarding of the Ph.D. title (or
equivalent), but under a solid guarantee that the title will be
awarded before the last deadline (November 30th, 2011). In any case
the title should have been awarded before the beginning of the
activity at the CIRM.

Applicants must send by ordinary mail, or possibly by electronic mail
to the address , the following documents:

1. A curriculum vitae including surname, first name and postal address
(e-mail address too) chosen to correspond with CIRM, together with
three recommendation letters.
2. A detailed Research Program with explicit reference to either a
Professor of Trento University, or a member of the Advisory Board
of CIRM. The applicant's program must be related to the Research
Group of the Host Professor.
3. A list of publications.
4. Copies (possibly, electronic files) of recent articles and
5. A copy (possibly, electronic file) of the Doctoral Thesis; in case
of submission of a preliminary version
6. A statement by the Ph.D. advisor should be attached.

The Advisory Board of CIRM will make a selection of winner applicants,
ranking them in consecutive order, and with a preference for Research
Programs connected to the research activity at CIRM and at the
Universita' di Trento. It is expected that the results of the
selection process will be communicated to the applicants within
October 5, 2011.

If one of the chosen candidates for the annual fellowship has not yet
been awarded the Ph.D. title within the date agreed upon for
commencing the activity at the CIRM, the Director will proceed to make
an offer to the next candidate on the list.

The fellows will have access, free of charge, to the FBK Cafeteria in

III) CIRM Visiting Professors and CIRM Visiting Scholars

CIRM Visiting Scholars will perform mathematical research in
cooperation with scientists and researchers of Trento University or,
more generally, of the Trento area, holding some research seminars;
CIRM Visiting Professors will hold short Ph.D. courses, or 'Summer
Courses', or series of seminars.

It is foreseen that the selection process for Visiting
Professors-Scholars take place through either

i) individual application, or
ii) invitation by a professor of Trento University or by a member of
the Advisory Board.

In both cases, as a rule, the applications-proposals must be motivated
on the basis of cooperation or synergy with Mathematicians belonging
to Institutions which are related with Trento. Applications must be
sent to the address FBK, Centro Internazionale per la Ricerca
Matematica, Via Sommarive n. 14-Povo, 38100 Trento, Italy by ordinary
mail or via electronic mail to the address

Applications must also contain a specific indication of the proposed
dates for the visit (usually: between 15 days and three months); it is
possible to enclose recommendation letters.

Applications and proposals may be sent at any time. However, it is
recommended to submit them sufficiently ahead of time, since they will
be usually examined three times every year.

Especially, visits of a length of more than one month require a
Co.Co.Pro. contract ("contratto di collaborazione coordinata e

Three levels of remuneration are foreseen, according to the
corresponding career level and the period of staying at CIRM:

Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach, and foresees the presence of two or
three partners from Universities located in different towns, who
intend to work on a definite research project and for a well specified
period of time (ranging from one to six weeks).

Applicant partners must submit a scientific project in the field of
mathematics, with a detailed research program, resulting in one or
more scientific publications on journals of excellent mathematical
level; the support of the CIRM will then be acknowledged in the
resulting publications.

Participants in the RIP Program will also give occasional research
seminar talks at the CIRM or at the University of Trento, but will
enjoy freedom in the pursuit of their scientific goals.

Applications where one or more of the partners are Italians will of
course be welcome.

CIRM will provide the necessary logistic support: office space and
computer facilities, access to the library and to other facilities of
the Dipartimento di Matematica della Universita' di Trento, and of the
Fondazione Bruno Kessler (such as FBK Cafeteria).

Participants in the RIP Program will have their living expenses (full

for future exascale HPC systems. Specific research topics are
multiphysics simulation software, load balancing, iterative linear
systems solvers.

The ExaScience Lab, see, is a research
partnership between Intel, the imec research center and five Belgian
(Flemish) universities. The Lab's mission is to design and develop
algorithms, tools and software for future exascale computing targeted
towards space weather simulation and other scientific applications,
and to exploit architectural simulation techniques for projecting
performance, power and reliability estimates of future exascale

architectures) collaborate in this recently established lab.

challenging engineering problems, especially in digital signal and

The main theme of our research is sparsity. Throughout computational
science and engineering, attempts have been made to represent and
manipulate data in a parsimonious way. Mathematical models are
proposed in which the major features of the data are represented using
only a few terms, in other words, models that use sparse combinations
of generating elements taken from a set. Besides the accuracy of the
representation, its sparsity has recently also become a priority. A
sparser model means higher compression, less data collection, storage
or transmission, and a reduced model complexity.

Our tools are derived from various disciplines such as numerical
linear algebra, computer algebra, and numerical approximation
theory. The aim is to apply mathematics to real-life data in the
industrial environment.
