Subject: Breakthough in Non-linear FEM Solver Algorithm
Dear Colleagues:
Over many years dedicated research, I finally found a
very robust general purpose algorithm of speed cNln(N)
to solve all non-linear finite element models that can
be formulated in terms of a monotone operator in a
Sobolev space setting. Part I of the paper (95 pages)
is just submitted for publication.
The method is topological and algebraic in nature. It
reduces the original FEA model in a numerically
equivalent manner to its simplest linear analog in a
linear computational count. For example, fully coupled
non-linear elliptic systems are reduced to (in linear
computation count) to non-coupled five-point finite
difference Laplacians on a uniform grid.
Differentiability of the non-linear operator is not
required.
Partial results of the discovery is patent pending,
and many new questions related to the new methodology
remain to be solved. Anyone interested in
collaboration with me on the new method, either
academically or commercially, please send an email to
pshi05@yahoo.com
Sincerely
Peter Shi, Ph.D

Journal of Asset Management - Call for Papers
Special Issue on Optimization: Recent advances and applications to
investment management
Volume 6, Issue 6
For publication in March/April 2006
Guest Editors:
Peter J. Zangari and Reha H. Tütüncü, Goldman Sachs Asset Management, USA
The Journal of Asset Management is pleased to announce a special issue
focused on recent advances and developments in optimization and its specific
application to investment management.
Over the last two decades, there have been significant developments in
optimization algorithms and its supporting technology. These developments,
along with a growing interest in optimization by some investment managers,
have led to an increase in their application. Optimizers are sophisticated
tools and a good deal of practical experience is often required to ensure
that the investment manager is maximizing its value. The aim of this special
issue is to advance our understanding of the application of optimization
methods to investment management.
Accordingly, the Guest Editors welcome submissions offering innovative
insights into optimization and its application to investment management. All
papers will be required to have an original perspective and a distinct
contribution.
All rigorous and thoughtful conceptual papers, literature reviews, case
studies, empirical studies and practice papers are encouraged. A wide
variety of topics will be suitable for this special edition and might
include (but is not limited to) the following:
* Robust optimization
* Trade optimization
* Recent developments in optimization methodology as applied to
investment management.
* How practitioners employ an optimizer as part of their portfolio
construction process.
* How an optimizer adds value to an investment manager's suite of tools.
* Uses and mis-uses of an optimizer: a practitioner's perspective.
* Multi-period optimization: issues and methods
* Multi-portfolio optimization: issues and methods
The closing date for submissions is 31st December, 2005.
The guest editors would welcome submissions from August 2005.
All papers will be subjected to double-blind peer review. Full notes for
prospective contributors are available at:
